Where this number came from?

9 223 372 036 854 775 808 is a bit more then Nine Quentillions or
nine quintillion two hundred twenty-three quadrill.ion three hundred seventy-two trillion thirty-six billion eight hundred fifty-foumillion seven hundred seventy-five thousand eight hundred eight, to be exact.

The reason of such limitation is the use of signed word64 variable to carry the amount of Tokens to mint or send. Which is 2^63 = ... You get the point.

One of the result of experiment was a number of Bugs found in IOHK software: cardano-node, Yoroi Wallet and Daedaus Wallet. It demonstrates this was the very first attempt to push Native Token minting to its limits. Now huge transfers of [ATH]OM as any other Native Assets are completely supported by software.

Initially [ATH]OM was distributed for free. On April 3, 2021 u/Doug_E_Lewis paid 10 ADA as gratitude for his Quadrillion of [ATH]OM.

There are 9223372036854775808 Athoms, the max value of a signed 64bit integer.

But JavaScript integers are limited to 53 bits, so software that use javascript integer to represent the value round it to 9223372036854776000.
